This centre was established in 197 by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, especially for the Tilapia breeding and seed rearing. It is situated around 170 km away from Colombo near the Udawalawe reservoir. The extent of the centre is 06 ha and it consists of broodstock ponds, rearing and nursery ponds with a hatchery facilities.
