| Best Management Practices for Chemical Suppliers & Importers for the Shrimp Industry. | |
(1) Registration 1.1 All Supplier/Importer/Manufacturer/Local producer should be registered under the Department of Animal Production & Health. 1.2 Inspections should be carried out by the Department of Animal Production & Health. (2) Labelling 2.1. Labelling must be in three Languages. 2.2. Proper guidelines for using chemicals must be included. 2.3. The following items should be included in the label. i. Common name with the active ingredients & strength/Trade name/Scientific name. ii. Name & the address including country of the manufacturer. iii. Instructions and details for repacking (Address & Telephone Nos) iv. Batch No / Stock No. v. Date of manufacture/Date of packing/ Date of Expiry/Volume and weight. vi. Instruction for storage & transport. vii. Purpose of usage. viii. Dosage. ix. Withdrawal period of the product. x. Prior protection Instruction. Special signs should be printed with attraction as follows; eg:- Danger - to be stored in a safe place away from children. o Separate logo for the Registration should be included. o Separate logo should be used for the products to the shrimp Industry. (3) Storage 3.1 Storage conditions should be specifically stated. 3.2 Storage facility should have enough space, light, & ventilation. 3.3 Storage building should be properly maintained. 3.4 There should be adequate pests control in stores. 3.5 Outdated chemicals should be stored separately & destroyed without affecting the environment. 3.6 All products should be stored separately for easy identification and on a first come, first remove basis. 3.7 Bulk products should be kept on pallets without touching floor or roof. 3.8 Chemicals should not be stored with prawn feed. 3.9 First aid facilities should be provided 3.10 Stores should be effectively protected from fire. (4) Packing Packing should change with the nature of production and be water resistant (SOPS method) (5) Transportation 5.1 Chemicals should not be transported along with shrimp feed. 5.2 During transportation of product, desirable conditions should be maintained. (6) Trading List of the prohibited chemicals for Aquaculture should be exhibited at the trading point. (7) Usage 7.1 Correct instructions should be given to the workers for proper usage of chemicals. 7.2 Protective gear should be used when handling chemicals (gloves, Boots, mouth & nose cover, etc ) (8) Record keeping Records of chemical usage should be maintained prawn farms for inspections. 8.1 Trade names, Permits for Importing & issuing of chemicals should be recorded. 8.2 Originals of production information & instructions for chemical usage should be recorded. 8.3 List of the expired & destroyed chemicals should be recorded. 8.4 A book for public complaints should be maintained. 8.5 A log book for use by monitoring officers should be maintained. 8.6 Lists of importers, List of local manufactures and list of overseas manufactures should be maintained for information of customers. 8.7 Every farmer should keep a copy of the Fisheries Regulation and NAQDA Act. (9) Awareness programs Awareness programmes should be conducted to the Suppliers, Local Producers, Users and Store Keepers about BMPs. (10) Maintaining of data bank for above awareness programme should be done by the Authority. (11) All expired chemicals should be disposed of effectively without coursing any harm to the environment. |
