Fomulation of Best Practice Methords

NAQDA has taken initial steps to formulate BMP's (Best Management Practices )and to disseminate same to the stake holders (Brood stock, Feeds and Chemical suppliers) of shrimp aquaculture industry as it is well understood and that BMP are indispensable to sustain the shrimp aquaculture industry to control the present disease situation.

A workshop was held on 6 th December, 2005 at the NAQDA Auditorium to formulate Best Management Practices for streamlining the activities of Brood stock, feed and chemical suppliers to mitigate risks of diseases and improvement of productivity with regard to shrimp Aquaculture in Sri Lanka

Officials from Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Fisheries Ministry of North Western Province, Officers of Shrimp Farm Extension and Monitoring Unit participated for the above workshop. Representatives of Sri Lanka Aquaculture Development Alliance and relevant stake holders were also invited and present at this event.

NAQDA expects to document BMP's and distribute among the stake holders before ending this year.
