Seminar and a workshop on Captive Breeding of Freshwater and Marine Finfish

National Aquaculture Development authority of Sri Lanka (NAQDA) together with Aquatech International organized a seminar and a workshop on Captive Breeding of Freshwater and Marine Finfish (ornamental and food) and Bio security – its effect on the industry. This event was co – sponsored by Syndel Asia SDN Bhd., Malaysia

The seminar took place at Ceylon Continental Hotel on 11 th January 2006 and Workshop was venued at Aqua Hatcheries Lanka (pvt) ltd, Negambo on 12 th January 2006.

Ms. Sugania Vijayan (Area Manager, Syndel Asia SDN Bhd., and Malaysia ) chaired the seminar while Dr. D.E.M. Weerakoone (Director General, NAQDA) delivered the keynote. Dr. James Powell and Mr. Andrew McCool (syndel Laboratories, Canada ) delivered the main speech. About 60 participants attended the seminar and the workshop. The participants represented stakeholders from all corners of the industry.

The objective of this workshop is to assist participants

  • To become familiar with the Principals and Technical parts behind Induced Spawning of fishes and the role of Ovaprim and Ovaplant in breeding fishes in captivity
  • To understand the relevance of bio security in today's global demands of the aquaculture industry
  • To enable the participants to adapt the content of the workshop to their aquaculture practice
