- To develop aquaculture and aquaculture operations, with a view to increase fish production and fish consumption in the country;
- To promote the creation of employment opportunities through the development of fresh water aquaculture, brackish water aquaculture, coastal aquaculture and mariculture;
- To promote the farming of high valued species including ornamental fish for export;
- To promote the optimum utilization of aquatic resources through environmentally friendly aquaculture programmes;
- To promote and develop small, medium and large scale private sector investment in aquaculture;
- To manage, conserve and develop aquatic resources used for aquaculture and aquaculture operations;
- To prepare and implement and assist in preparing and implementing plans and programmes for the management, conservation and development of aquaculture and aquaculture operations.
