Restructuring of the Shrimp Farming Industry

 

An awareness programme regarding activities undertaken for Restructuring of the Shrimp Farming Industry by the National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka (NAQDA) for all Members of Parliament and key government officials of the Puttalam District was held in Chilaw Rest House on 26 th August 2005. The Hon .Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Christian affairs Mr. Milroy Fernando, other Members of Parliament viz a viz Mr. Neyomal Fernando, Mrs. Lareen Perera, Mr. Dayasiri Tissera ,Mr. Ranga Bandra, Mr. Saman Siri Herath, Minister of Fisheries and Cooperatives of the North Western Provincial Council Mr. Victor Perera and members of Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas, attended the above event.

Mr.P.N.Chandraratne / Director, Coastal Aquaculture & Sea Farming Development of NAQDA made a power point presentation on the activities carried out so far by the recently established Shrimp Farm Extension and Monitoring Unit (SFEMU) in Chilaw to restructure the shrimp aquaculture industry and discussed avenues of possible corporation among stake holders and politicians.

The event was organized by NAQDA and the Sri Lanka Aquaculture Development Alliance (SLADA).
