Fresh water prawn farming on the Experimental basis in identified medium Perennial reservoirs

In order to create an awareness among rural communities about the importance of freshwater prawn production through culture based fisheries in medium irrigation reservoirs, for the local and export markets NAQDA launches a free stocking programme in selected medium irrigation tanks as given below, in order to create a fishery for this species in these tanks, believes that when more and more freshwater prawns are harvested and sold to the hotels and exporters, a demand will be created automatically

Last year 25000 of Fresh water prawn post larvae were stocked in Siyambalankotuwa tank, situated in Puttalam District. Now harvesting of Fresh water Prawn is being carried out by fishers in Siyambalankotuwa tank.
