Reservation marking for Dutch canal was started by the survey department on 27th june 2006. Started from Koththanthive area and finished about 1km and planning to mark rest 60km in the future.

Free flow of water in the Dutch Canal is one of the major factor essential for water quality improvement in shrimp farming. 24 Nos of illegal fishing traps were renewed along the narrowest area of canal from Maduarankuliya to Palavi which obstructed the free flow of water in the ‘ Dutch Canal '.

NAQDA in collaboration with Provincial Fisheries Ministry in NWP donated Fishing nets and a craft to the illegal fishermen in order to provide alternative employments.

Thereafter all illegal fishing traps were removed with the help of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Under the financial provision made in budget proposals for 2006, NAQDA granted hume pipes to Shrimp Farmers Association of Kusala Kottage Area in order to construct a common out let canal recently. It cost about Rs. 71000. Farmers constructed the common out let canal by themselves.
