Free flow of water in the Dutch Canal is one of the major factor essential for water quality improvement in shrimp farming. 24 Nos of illegal fishing traps were renewed along the narrowest area of canal from Maduarankuliya to Palavi which obstructed the free flow of water in the ‘ Dutch Canal '. |

NAQDA in collaboration with Provincial Fisheries Ministry in NWP donated Fishing nets and a craft to the illegal fishermen in order to provide alternative employments.
Thereafter all illegal fishing traps were removed with the help of Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. |
