New Booklet on Freshwater Fish cultureA new booklet on fish culture has been published by NAQDA in collaboration with JAICA. The booklet was written by Yoshitake Sone, a Japanese Overseas Volunteer placed at the Dambulla Center . The booklet covers a wide number of topics on food fish aquaculture in Sri Lanka , though in concise manner. Among the selected topics are importance of fish culture in Sri Lanka , suitable species, site selection and preparation of ponds, major fish diseases, cage culture of fish , seasonal tank aquaculture and integrated fish farming. It also includes a list of important reference contacts to obtain information and advise on aquaculture. The book was organized as an easy reference handbook for practitioners as well as for students. An important feature of the book is that many aquaculture practices are presented with illustrations so that any person who has a practical interest in the subject can grasp the material easily. New Booklet on Freshwater Fish Cuisine
A new booklet on freshwater fish recipes has been published by NAQDA. This came as an outcome of ‘Freshwater Food Fiesta' organized by NAQDA in collaboration with the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation at the recently held National Food Exhibition and Trade Fair conducted by the Ministry of Small and Rural Industries Development at the Viharamaha Devi Park on 08-10 April. The objective of publishing this booklet is to popularize freshwater fish among the urban public by creating awareness on how to prepare freshwater fish deliciously. The ultimate aim of this exercise is to promote the consumption of freshwater fish among urban public, so that a demand is created for products of poor inland fisher community while contributing to increase the animal protein intake also. The booklet covers various methods and recipes for preparing fish dishes for Tilapia (also known as Theppili), Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, and Giant freshwater prawns and other special types of oisters, and crabs. The veteran chef Mr Pabilis Silva of the Mt. Lavinia Hotel has prepared these recipes.
