The booklet which highlights many best management practices with appropriate illustrations is an easy reference handbook for shrimp farmers. An important feature of the book is that many best aquaculture practices are presented with illustrations enabling a person to grasp the material easily. This can be considered as an important contribution since technical information on aquaculture is scare in Sinhala. New Booklet on Freshwater Fish culture
A booklet written by Yoshitake Sone, an overseas volunteer from Japan worked at the Dambulla Aquaculture Development Center on fish culture has been published by NAQDA under the sponsorship of JAICA. The booklet covers a wide number of topics precisely on food fish aquaculture in Sri Lanka, including the importance of fish culture in Sri Lanka, suitable species, site selection and preparation of ponds, major fish diseases, cage culture of fish, seasonal tank aquaculture and integrated fish farming. It also includes appropriate illustrations and a list of important reference on aquaculture.
The book is organized as an easy reference handbook for practitioners as well as for students. The booklet written in Sinhala is an important guide to locals who are engaged in aquaculture. New Booklet on Freshwater Fish Cuisine
A new booklet on freshwater fish recipes has been published by NAQDA. This is an outcome of 'Freshwater Food Fiesta' organized by NAQDA in collaboration with the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation for the National Food Exhibition and Trade Fair conducted by the Ministry of Small and Rural Industries Development in 2003. The objective of publishing this booklet is to popularize freshwater fish among the urban sector by building awareness on how to prepare freshwater fish deliciously in order to create demand for freshwater fish. The booklet provides various methods and recipes prepared by Mr Pabilis Silva of Mt. Lavinia Hotel for preparing fish dishes for Tilapia, Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, and Giant freshwater prawns and other special types of oysters and crabs.
